I actually realized how bad it was when I did the State Championships on the track. I won my age group in everything but I had my times crushed by the younger age groups. That hurt.

Additionally, I used to be fairly good at TT's. What I found was that I was getting older, weaker, and slower. Why do I want to do this to myself??

Besides, recovery (which used to happen fairly quickly) was taking forever. One day hard and one day easy. Otherwise I was a wreck.

What I have migrated to doing is getting together with buddies and doing rides of 40 to 60 miles. We can go hard or not. We can stop at a store or not. No entry fees, no great travel expenses, and MUCH less risk of injury.

I don't have to "train" but I can still have a good time on my bike with friends. What's not to like/Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16873338306579563527noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890405388278078805.post-85956188178631625812017-04-05T04:18:26.506-04:002017-04-05T04:18:26.506-04:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.almostakblhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15325809002265918919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4890405388278078805.post-50213433553381985282016-12-24T17:46:44.312-05:002016-12-24T17:46:44.312-05:00Indeed! It made me extremely grumpy and wondering, like you, what the heck I was doing out there. My saving grace after stage 6 was the Starbucks glass bottle frappucino and the McDonald's double hamburger, which may have been the most delicious thing I have ever eaten (that's how whacked out we get). You passed me at the base of 6 Mile and had nice words of encouragement and I saw you in distress near the top.
